Scolari offers no excuses for Chelsea

Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari offered no excuses after his team were thumped 3-1 by Roma last night. Scolari felt his side made too many errors to merit taking anything away from their trip to the Italian capital.

"We didn't play well," Scolari admitted after goals from Christian Panucci and two from Mirko Vucinic gave the Italians a deserved victory.

"We made mistakes at critical times. We allowed Roma chances and individual mistakes cost us dearly."

Scolari admitted that his side had been caught cold by Panucci's opener, with the former Chelsea man allowed to ghost into the area unmarked before slotting home from close range.

"We gave the ball away and then nobody followed Panucci inside the area," he said. "We made another mistake in the second goal, which killed us."

Roma currently sit 17th in Serie A, but Scolari denied his team had taken their hosts lightly.

"Despite their recent negative results, I knew that Roma have very good players," he said. "When you make mistakes like we did today they take advantage.

"When you go behind against them, it's difficult to recover."
