"We analyzed the game of Valladolid in the videos," said Schuster afterwards. "We knew they would defend high up the pitch. We wanted to use the flanks with great speed and for Guti and (Fernando) Gago to play long balls into space and that is what we tried to do.
"It is surprising that a team plays like this at the Bernabeu. It has favored us."
Schuster was especially pleased with Guti's performance, as the midfielder hasn't maintained a regular first team place this season.
"When you give a first team chance to a player, this is the answer you want. You want the player to repay the confidence you've shown in him and this is what he is doing. We know who he is, but it is necessary to demand this from him.
"Guti sees things a second before everyone else. For our game, it is most important we have someone who can create."
