Real Madrid moved six points clear at the top of the table after their 3-1 victory over Sevilla last night.
Schuster, who left the media waiting for his appearance as he chatted with German tennis champ Boris Becker, also said: "We've been talking about title-deciding results for the past four weeks. Today is no different. We've simply beaten a very difficult opponent. Last week we lost three points against Valencia and now we have gained three. We must take it one game at a time.
"We are in charge of our own destiny and that's the best way to do things. I'm not concerned about who is in second-place."
