Scholes: Stoke could break transfer record again

Stoke City chief executive Tony Scholes says they could break their transfer record again this summer.

Stoke would have to top the £18m they forked out for Giannelli Imbula from FC Porto 14 months ago to break their existing record.

"If the right player came along, we are always looking at opportunities," Scholes told The Sentinel. "However, I don't think you can be having record signings every transfer window.

"And if you look over the last three or four, we've done a big signing in each window. There was Saido (Berahino) in January, Joe Allen last summer, the previous January there was Giannelli (Imbula) and Xherdan Shaqiri the summer before.

"But we are always looking at the opportunities on how we can improve on what we've got."
