Scholes: Mkhitaryan injury 'disappointing' for Man Utd

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes says that it was disappointing for his former club to lose their star player Henrikh Mkhitaryan to an injury ahead of Sunday's EFL Cup final.

The Armenian scored in United's 1-0 Europa League second leg win over St Etienne on Thursday before leaving the pitch with a possible hamstring injury.

Following the game, manager Jose Mourinho confirmed that the 28-year-old is a major doubt for the cup final with Southampton at Wembley Stadium.

"It does [look like a hamstring injury]," Scholes told BT Sport.

"It is disappointing really.

"He has been a big player for Manchester United over the past few weeks.

"It doesn't look too serious hamstring injury – maybe 10 days or two weeks.

"But it might be too risky for Sunday."
