Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Wayne Rooney has earned the right to decide his future at the club.
The Red Devils captain continues to be linked with a summer exit from Old Trafford with former club Everton, West Ham United, clubs in China and MLS all keen.
There has been plenty of debate surrounding Rooney in recent months and former teammate Scholes has waded in, saying the England international gets to decide when his time as a United player comes to an end.
"Wayne [Rooney]'s been an unbelievable player for Manchester United. It's up to him, I suppose really," Scholes told Omnisport.
"If he wants to stay, great. If he doesn't, wants to go and play football... you have to respect his decision.
"He's been a sensational footballer for Manchester United, won great things, scored a ridiculous amount of goals. I think he's earned the right to decide what he wants to do."
