Scholes dismissed but Man Utd claim three points at Tottenham

Manchester United thoroughly deserved the points as even with ten men they were good value for their 3-1 win at Tottenham. Spurs took a first minute lead through Jermain Defoe, but that was as good as it got for the home side.

United then fought back to take the lead by half time.

Ryan Giggs levelled direct from a free kick then Anderson, with his first Reds goal in 76 appearances, gave the visitors the lead just before the break.

Paul Scholes saw red from referee Andre Marriner for a second yellow with over 30 minutes to play.

Peter Crouch hit the woodwork but in a devastating counter attack Wayne Rooney sealed the points with 14 minutes remaining and brought to an end Spurs 100% start to the campaign.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was unhappy with the sending off.

"It was a terrible decision," fumed Ferguson. "He was sent off because his name is Paul Scholes.

"I've watched it on a replay twice now and I think the Tottenham boy caught him more than Paul caught the boy."

Ferguson, who watched his team move up to second in the Premier League, added: "I didn't see any sending off in what he did at all."

"It was always going to be hard game," said Ferguson. "Tottenham are in great form and they got off to a fantastic start in the first minutes of the game.

"It was a marvellous finish from Defoe but it was early in the game, there were still 90 minutes to play. We had to gather our game and show composure."
