Schmid impressed by New York keeper Cepero

Columbus Crew head Coach Sigi Schmid is very aware of New York Red Bull's development contract goalkeeper Danny Cepero. "Because of the success they've had in the playoff games, there's a confidence that's built between him and the team that has helped them," said Schmid

Goalkeeper Cepero, who will earn $12,900 this season as developmental player, was thrust into the spotlight after regular keeper Jon Conway and defender Jeff Parke were suspended 10 games apiece for using performance-enhancing drugs.

Cepero scored a goal on his debut - against the Columbus Crew on October 8 - the first by a goalkeeper in league history and has only given up one goal in three playoff matches.

"He came back as a better goalkeeper with better experience and when the chance came he grabbed it with two hands and have gotten the most out of it," Red Bulls coach Juan Carlos Osorio said.
