Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel is surprised Ryan Giggs has entered management.
Schmeichel feels his former team-mate has a bright future on the touchline - even if he didn't always seem cut out for the management game.
Asked whether Giggs had always had the air of a future coach, Schmeichel told the Mirror: "Not really. If you had looked around the dressing room in the period I was here [1991-1999], you definitely wouldn't have looked at Ryan and said 'he's a future manager'.
"But we all evolve and gain experience. You progress as a footballer and as a football person. What Ryan did in the four games he took charge of was put himself in the frame. People now look at him as a potential manager.
"It looks like he'll be Van Gaal's number two. If that's the case, he'll have a fantastic teacher who has worked in tough environments and been through adversity. Someone who can withstand that kind of pressure and still come out on top is someone you want to take lessons from.
"He has the opportunity to learn from one of the best... having already played under the best manager for 20 years. That's going to make him a very strong prospect for a lot of clubs in the future."
