Schmeichel proud of ‘incredible’ Leicester achievement

Kasper Schmeichel was over the moon after helping Leicester City advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The Danish goalkeeper came up with another penalty save, denying Steven N'Zonzi late in the contest, as the Foxes defeated Sevilla 2-0 to book their spot in the final eight with a 3-2 aggregate win.

Goals from Wes Morgan and Marc Albrighton did the job for the reigning Premier League champions and Schmeichel was the hero at the back having already saved a penalty from Joaquin Correa in the first leg.

Speaking to BT Sport, Schmeichel was asked what he felt after the triumph:"Pride.

"This is an unbelievable achievement for the club, I'm proud of the boys, proud of everybody. It was such a tough game against a quality team, we had a game plan which we stuck to and it worked perfectly.

"We always knew they would have a lot of possession. In the first half we had possession, played well.

"The second half was tough to maintain that level of intensity. They pass the ball as well as they do, the boys did brilliantly to keep them from most of the chances."

Regarding Leicester's good recent form under new manager Craig Shakespeare, the gloveman added: "It is about confidence.

"We've gone out and we've played more like we did last season we are reaping the rewards right now, tonight was fantastic."

A second penalty save in successive Champions League games from Schmeichel prompted these words: "Thats what I'm there to do, it's quite simple.

"It's one of those things as a keeper. It was three years since I saved a penalty and I've saved two in two in the Champions League.

"It's a great feeling to help the boys progress."
