Schmeichel: Man Utd made 'too many mistakes' in FA Cup quarter-final

Peter Schmeichel believes Manchester United were too error-prone in their FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Arsenal.

The Red Devils crashed out of the famous cup competition 2-1 at the hands of the Gunners which came via a 61st-minute winner from ex-United striker Danny Welbeck.

Nacho Monreal opened the scoring in the 25th minute before Wayne Rooney levelled four minutes later but Welbeck pounced on a poor backpass from Antonio Valencia before Angel Di Maria was sent off for grabbing the shirt of referee Michael Oliver after initially being booked for simulation.

In the wake of that defeat, club legend Schmeichel commented on the performance of Louis van Gaal's side who he feels did not show up for a vital FA Cup fixture.

"This was an FA Cup game - and I didn't see Manchester United play it as an FA Cup game," the Danish goalkeeping great said.

"This was their only chance to win a trophy this season and there were too many players not playing how they should. There were too many mistakes, too many individual mistakes."
