Schmeichel: I'm no Man City favourite

Kasper Schmeichel has rubbished claims he's Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson's favourite because of his Dad's influence.

The rookie keeper, 20, is keeping England Under-21 ace Joe Hart on the bench at Manchester City as he follows in the footsteps of his famous father and Manchester United legend, Peter.

But Schmeichel Jnr insists he does not seek, or get, any favours from City boss Eriksson as he prepares to face Blackburn today.

He said: "People think I have had it easy all my life because my last name is Schmeichel. The truth is that I have had to work even harder than others to prove that I am not just here because of my dad.

"I don't think the manager of a Premier League team would pick me just because Peter Schmeichel is my dad. No way.

"I sometimes speak Danish with Eriksson as he is Swedish and we understand each other, but I do not get any favours because of it. And now I have to play at my top level or else everyone will say that I'm nothing like my father and look like a light version of him.

"It's hard to make people satisfied, but I have learned to live with the pressure and play as best as I can."
