Schmeichel delighted to grab new Man City chance

Kasper Schmeichel was happy to grab his chance to see action for Manchester City in their 2-2 draw with Hull City.

Schmeichel was a substitute for injured goalkeeper Joe Hart and said: "I felt ready when I came on, but I'm gutted for Joe with the internationals coming up. He's been flying of late, and then all of a sudden that happens. It's a real kick in the teeth and I feel for him.

"It just seems typical of our luck at the moment. When things are not going for you, they really don't go for you, so we have just got to dig in but we cannot let it affect us. It has taken two big slices of luck for them to score against us.

"We created some good chances but we just need that little bit of luck. We're doing everything right in training, we're working hard but we're not getting the rub of the green. We've had some bad results of late, and Hull is not an easy place to come. They were very confident, their fans really get behind their team at home but the positive thing for us is that we have come out of it with a point. We all feel that we should have had all three points but we can't do anything about that now. We've got to look forward, and make sure we get it right in the next game."

Hart's injury means that he drops out of the senior England squad for Wednesday's friendly against Germany, and the prospect is that Schmeichel could now get a run in the City side with Hart set to miss the next two to three weeks.

He also told City's website, "He's gutted, and we all are for him because he's worked so hard recently. It could only happen with an international coming up when he gets called up to the full squad. It's so typical, he's a very good friend and I'm really sorry for him.

"Not playing is frustrating, but Joe has done well. I've been working harder than I ever have, I'm doing a hard regime in the gym and I just want to be in as good a shape as possible whenever I get the call."
