Scharner happy at Wigan

Wigan Athletic utility Paul Scharner is delighted with his form and happy at the JJB stadium.

"My goal against Derby was my fifth for the season and it is always a target to score in a game," the Austrian told the Manchester Evening News. "I scored four goals in the season when I arrived, I got three last year so I am pleased to have bettered that figure and hopefully there will be more because I am happy. My latest one was a poacher's goal.

"I am really happy for the team that we won and the three points are very important as we try to stay in this League. I am sure we can kick-off from this. It was so important to pick up all three points on Saturday. Even though Derby have not won a game for such a long time, it was always going to be difficult.

"I am enjoying how things are going and moving back to centre-half has not been a problem for me. We are determined to stay up and naturally I was pleased to be among the goals again. It was also nice to see Antonio Valencia scoring the second goal and at 2-0 we knew Derby would not come back.

"We are now looking for a strong finish to the season and I just want to do my bit."
