Scharner, who has returned to Hamburg from his loan at the Latics, said: "He’s such a talent and he’s very strong.
“It’s harder to find a stronger guy in the Premier League. The way he can hold up the ball up front is amazing.
“He scored a few vital goals against teams that were around Wigan in the relegation zone last season but it wasn’t enough.
“I think he’s a decent striker and I can understand why there are other teams interested in him. I think he can do a good job if he moves to another club in the Premier League."
