Schalke tell Birmingham to up bid for Kuranyi

Schalke have told Birmingham City to up their bid for striker Kevin Kuranyi.

The Times says Brum's £2 million bid for Kuranyi has been turned down by Schalke, who have valued the Germany forward at twice that sum.

Carson Yeung, the new Birmingham owner, has said that he will give Alex McLeish up to £40 million to spend this month but the manager does not want to pay over the odds.

Kuranyi who started his career at Stuttgart, has scored 19 goals in 52 matches for his country.
