Schalke's Di Matteo after Chelsea scalp

Schalke manager Roberto Di Matteo is desperate to beat Chelsea this week.

The Italian tactician and his German outfit host the Blues in the Champions League on Tuesday night and the ex-Stamford Bridge boss is hoping to get one up on his old club.

Di Matteo spent six years in west London as a player before guiding the club to the 2012 Champions League/FA Cup double when acting as interim manager but is not about to put any emotion in the way of the Group G clash in Gelsenkirchen.

"I had a very good time as a player and as a manager in London," he said.

"I spent many years of my life there and am still in contact with some of the people and the players.

"But there's no time for sentimentality. The match is Schalke against Chelsea and I want to win with Schalke against Chelsea.

"The group is still wide open. Every team has the chance to reach the knockout round.

"Chelsea haven't lost a competitive game so far this season and have a lot of quality in their squad. You have to do everything right if you want to beat them. We'll give everything, as a win would put us in a very good position in the group."

Schalke are currently second on the group table with five points from four matches which has them three behind Jose Mourinho's in-form Chelsea with two group stage fixtures remaining.
