Brazilian defender Marcelo Bordon has joined Qatari club Al Rayyan it has been confirmed.

The 34-year old has left German Bundesliga club FC Schalke after joining in 2004 and signed a new deal with the Middle Eastern outfit.

Bordon, who has also played with Sao Paulo and Stuttgart, is looking forward to a fresh challenge with Al Rayyan.

"I am happy to start a new experience and play for Al Rayyan who are a big team," said Bordon.

"I know a lot about the Qatar league and I know coach Paulo Autuori and also (striker) Afonso Alves, who gave me a lot of information about Qatar and Al Rayyan.

"Al Rayyan are a strong team and I hope that I can put my experience at the service of the team to help them to win a lot of titles in the local and continental competitions."
