Schalke's Boateng on Uchida goal: Sometimes you need that luck

Kevin-Prince Boateng admits sometimes you need a little bit of luck in order to win football matches.

The Ghanaian scored Schalke's second goal in their 3-0 Champions League win over Steaua Bucharest on Wednesday night but it was the opening goal from Japan international Atsuto Uchida which was the catalyst for the German side.

The right-back floated in a long ball for Boateng in the 67th minute only to see his effort evade all in the box and nestle itself inside the far post to give Schalke the lead.

Boateng, who has now scored two goals in three outings since his summer move from AC Milan, admitted it was a lucky goal but said at times you need such luck to help win matches.

"I think we played excellently in the first half-hour; the only thing we didn't do was score," he told Bundesliga.com.

"In the second half we had a little bit of luck with Atsuto Uchida's long ball ending up in the back of the net, but after that we found our rhythm, had some good combination play and scored two more goals. We're delighted to have won so convincingly."

Boateng added: "I was in the penalty box and made a run. Uchida wanted to find me but the ball went over my head and ended up going all the way in. In games like that you need that bit of luck."
