Schalke have moved for released Chelsea midfielder Mineiro.

The 34-year-old is without a club after being released by Chelsea in the summer and can therefore be signed without a fee.

And coach Felix Magath believes he is just the kind of player he needs to complete his squad, telling Kicker magazine: "Mineiro can fill a hole in the defensive midfield."

He added: "He can play in any position there, in the centre or between the defence and midfield. We will watch him in training over the coming days and then decide where it is best to play him."
