Schalke are eyeing Everton boss David Moyes.
The Daily Mail says Schalke have made him one of their top choices to succeed outgoing coach Jens Keller at the end of the season.
Keller was appointed in place of the sacked Huub Stevens on a six-month deal at the end of December, just as Moyes was going public with his admiration for German football.
It was noted in the Schalke boardroom, and sources close to the ambitious Bundesliga club insist he is now being considered for their imminent vacancy, along with Eintracht Frankfurt's Armin Veh.
