Schalke have ended their ambitious pursuit of Fulham full-back Sascha Riether.
German paper Ruhr Nachrichten reports that the Bundesliga outfit were trying to lure Riether back to his homeland just two months after signing a permanent deal with the Cottagers.
Schalke were keen to bring in the former Freiburg man but have since conceded defeat in their chase for his signature.
Riether spent last season on loan at Fulham from FC Cologne, winning the Player of the Year award, before being snapped up on a less temporary deal in May.
