Schalke management claim they're battling Liverpool for Chelsea's free agent Salomon Kalou. Schalke coach Huub Stevens has identified Champions League winner Kalou to join his Bundesliga side with the Ivory Coast international looking for a new club following his release from Stamford Bridge.

"Kalou is a Bosman player this summer," he said.

"It's obvious; there are many other clubs keen on him. Liverpool for example.

"But I know for sure he wants to move away from England. This could be our chance."
