Schalke have confirmed Liverpool's interest in Leroy Sane.

The 19-year-old burst onto the scene last season and has excelled with a host of outstanding individual performances in the Bundesliga this campaign.

He has taken on the role of the team's key playmaker since the departure of Julian Draxler to Wolfsburg.

“There was one or more prestigious club that contacted us about Sane," director Horst Heldt said.

“Liverpool was ready to pay money for him. These offers didn't at all interest us or the player. I am really not concerned about losing the player."
