SC Cambuur are resigned to losing star winger Albert Rusnak in January.
On-loan from Manchester City, Rusnak is eager to secure his long-term future next month with his current deal due to expire in the summer.
FC Groningen have made contact with City about a deal for Rusnak, who this week turned down a contract offer from Cambuur.
The club's GM Gerard van den Belt told Leeuwarder Courant: "It was the best offer we've made for some years. But it was not enough.
"There a lot of interest in him from other clubs."
Cambuur sports chief Marcel Keizer added: "Cambuur is not his employer, that is Manchester City. The loan with us runs to January 1.
"He is then free to leave and is under no obligation to tell us his plans."
