Sbragia backs Allardyce for Sunderland job

Sunderland caretaker boss Ricky Sbragia would like to see the job go to Sam Allardyce.

Sbragia worked under Big Sam for four seasons at Bolton and, though his first impressions weren't favourable, he reckons the 54-year-old would be perfect to fill the void.

He said: "When I joined Bolton I actually thought Sam was a big bully but I must admit he's completely different to what you see. He's very educated on his football, he's got good management skills and can deal well with players and get them playing for him.

"On the technology side he's probably the best in the business. He used Prozone before other people and I had four great years with him, he was outstanding, different class. He's ready to come."

On his own chances after this resounding victory gave Sunderland only their second win in nine games, Sbragia said: "It's nice of Niall to say I'm in contention.

"But I've not thought about it. I've always liked being a coach. I enjoy working with the players and love the club."
