Savage accepts Blackburn battle

Robbie Savage accepts he must fight for a first team place at Blackburn Rovers this season.

"If you get the shirt, it's going to be difficult to keep hold of it, Your performance every single week, and in training, you can't afford to miss one.

"I think we've got a big season ahead of us."

Savage suffered his broken leg against Watford in January and he acknowledges it was a difficult period in his career.

He added: "It feels fine, luckily I had a good surgeon, a good physio and a team that was very supportive.

"I worked hard, but it was a bad one. The surgeon said it was possibly one of the worst ones you can get as it was a compound fracture.

"It was an emotional moment when you're not playing. I admit I was horrible to live with, I was very low and didn't know what to do with myself."
