Sassuolo chief Carnevali: Napoli attempt for Politano was a mess

Sassuolo chief Giovanni Carnevali says Napoli failed to make adequate contact about Matteo Politano in January.

Carnevali believes the deal fell through over poor communication from Napoli.

"In the last hours Napoli tried to take Diego Farias to do a wide-ranging deal which would have also involved Adam Ounas, but there wasn't the time," Carnevali explained on TRC TV.

Reading and approving 40 pages in such a short period of time is impossible, but it seemed at a certain point the thing could get over the line.

“[Napoli sporting director] Cristiano Giuntoli is a great professional, but there was no communication between him and [President] Aurelio De Laurentiis.

“Ounas had to come to Sassuolo.

“What bothers me are the statements on Beppe Marotta and Juventus. It was a provocation, relating to De Laurentiis and Ounas' contract.

“I heard Politano wasn't their first choice anyway."
