Santos president Luis Alvaro Oliveira Ribeiro is convinced he can sign Manchester City midfielder Robinho long-term.
Robinho is expected to return to his former club this week on a six-month loan.
While Santos have made an enquiry, they have not yet raised the money to meet City's demands. On Sunday, though, Alvaro said he would fund the move by doing deals with sponsors.
Alvaro, who hopes to wrap up the deal by Wednesday, said: "I hope to bring Robinho not just for six months. And if he returns (to Brazil), it will only be to Santos."
