Roque Santa Cruz is ready to outfire Benni McCarthy at Blackburn Rovers this season.

The £3.3m capture from Bayern Munich is going head-to-head with the striker who scored 24 goals last season.

Santa Cruz made his debut as a sub in the 3-0 win over Preston on Saturday.

And he said: "What Benni did last year was incredible. It's not my objective to score more goals than him, but if it happens then obviously I'll be very happy."
