Santa Cruz eager to kick on after Man City debut

Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz was delighted to make his debut in their victory over West Ham United.

"I always try to push things," he said. "Sometimes the physios have to stop you doing silly things.

"You always want to be on the pitch playing, no matter how painful it is, especially having come to a new club. In that sense it has been very helpful to have people around. You need to listen and not rush things."

Santa Cruz's desperation is understandable.

As the weeks have dragged on and City have begun in such impressive fashion, his impatience to get involved has increased.

"It has been frustrating," he said. "It is hard for a player not to be involved when the season starts, especially when you are new into the club.

"At the same time I have been very pleased watching the players perform.

"I think we deserve to be where we are in the table because of the hard work we have been doing and the fantastic way we have started the season."
