He told fulhamfc.com: "Brian's the new Captain for the season and he's an excellent professional. I didn't want to give it to someone who'd just come into the Club and he was head and shoulders above other candidates after Michael Brown left.
"He's a great professional and elder statesman in that respect but you wouldn't realise it on the pitch. He covers more ground than anyone else - and he's someone that is respected by the other players. There was an opportunity after Michael left to look around and I just thought it's something that would suit Brian at this stage of his career."
