Summer signing forward Darren Huckerby from the San Jose Earthquakes was voted MLS Player of the Month for September. Scoring three goals and creating with one assist during the month, helping to keep alive a nine-game unbeaten streak. Huckerby and the San Jose Earthquakes are looking to become the first expansion team to make the playoffs in 10 years.
