San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Arturo Alvarez is on the verge of being allowed to switch to the El Salvador national team.
The Houston-born Alvarez has yet to be called up to the US national team and a change in FIFA rules may see him get his chance to represent the nation of his parents descent.
The 24-year old could be a chance to play in El Salvador's World Cup qualifiers beginning on August 12 and he has been given the nod of approval from national team captain Ramon Sanchez.
"He's a good player," said Sánchez. "He's very close to getting the chance. I think he could help us and I hope to see him in these qualifiers."
