Ike Opara has departed San Jose Earthquakes to join Sporting Kansas City as part of a trade.
The 23-year old defender heads to SKC in exchange for a second-round draft pick in the 2013 MLS Super Draft.
Opara, who captains the USA U23 team, spent three years with the Quakes and made 35 appearances during his time at Buck Shaw Stadium.
The North Carolina-born Opara became expendable for San Jose following three years on a Generation adidas contract and the Quakes would no longer be able to fit him into their salary cap hence the trade.
