San Jose Earthquakes take a chance on bitcoins

San Jose Earthquakes have agreed a partnership with Coinbase to become the first in professional soccer to accept bitcoins for tickets, merchandise and concessions, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/. San Francisco-based Coinbase will connect the club to its bitcoin platform - which currently consists of more than 1.2 million consumer wallets, 30,000 merchants and 5,000 API applications - to allow fans to make bitcoin payments using mobile devices running its Coinbase Merchant app.

Dave Kaval, the San Jose Earthquakes president, said: "In the spirit of Silicon Valley, the Earthquakes are constantly looking for ways to innovate. Coinbase's bitcoin payment processor adds another cutting-edge payment option that further streamlines the commerce experience for fans."
