San Jose Earthquakes are wrapping up the signing of 6-foot-4 forward Cam Weaver from FK Haugesund of Norway. The Quakes are excited about the potential of Weaver, who played with the Seattle Sounders of the United Soccer League in 2006. He scored 11 goals in 28 games last season in Norway. Weaver had 18 goals in 27 games for the Sounders, who have become an MLS expansion team this season.
"He gives Frank (Yallop) another option," General Manager John Doyle told the San Jose Mercury News. "He's good in the air, a good finisher. Those types of players are hard to come by."
Peter Fewing, who coached the forward at Seattle University, said, "Cam was a wrecking crew. He can score with his left foot, right foot or with his head. If he can get on a roll, he could be a national-team guy."
