San Jose Earthquakes' Cannon suffers broken ankle

San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper Joe Cannon has suffered a broken ankle in training.

The 35-year old is expected to be sidelined for up to two months following the freak accident which occurred on Tuesday.

Quakes coach Frank Yallop confirmed the injury whilst Cannon said in an email to the Mercury News that he was going to remain positive throughout his recovery.

"It snapped," Yallop said. "It was a freak accident."

Cannon added: "These things happen. It is obviously disappointing, but I don't want to waste one minute feeling down or negative. The challenge will be to keep staying positive and just get my routine back to normal."
