San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Arturo Alvarez is not eligible to play for El Salvador, according to US Soccer. Alvarez stated publicly last week that he would like to play for El Salvador even though he was US born and had already played at International level for the US at the U-20 level.

A high-ranking source at US Soccer confirmed to Soccer By Ives on Saturday that Alvarez can only play for the United States as a player can only make a change before his 21st birthday and he is 23 years old.
