San Antonio Scorpions step up MLS negotiations

NASL club San Antonio Scorpions are pushing hard to be granted a MLS license.

Scorpions owner Gordon Hartman and San Antonio mayor Julian Castro met with MLS Commissioner Don Garber this week to discuss the possibility of obtaining entry into the USA and Canada's top flight by 2020.

Hartman told the San Antonio Express News: "It was a lot of good back-and-forth in respect to where MLS stands.

"I think the Commissioner has seen we have a proven model here. He's seen the infrastructure. He [met] a mayor who is a true leader and recognizes the potential and wants to see something happen.

"All those things put us on a level [of consideration], but I can't tell you what that level is.

Castro added: "We had a good, productive meeting. We will continue to put our best foot forward and work toward getting an MLS team in the city."

San Antonio are up against the likes of Atlanta, Miami, Minneapolis and St Louis to gain entry into Major League Soccer.
