Samuel looks to St Johnstone as a stepping stone

St Johnstone striker Collin Samuel remains keen to play at a higher level after working hard to improve his fitness. Samuel joined St Johnstone in 2008 from Toronto FC and is out of contract with the SPL newcomers at the end of the season.

The Trinidad & Tobago international hopes to eventually earn the chance to test himself on a bigger stage.

"My long-term ambitions are still to play at a higher level and that's why I'm pushing myself as hard as possible to keep as fit as I can," said Samuel in the Daily Record.

"Apart from training every day I'm doing extra work to concentrate on my explosive side.

"The solo striker role is one I enjoy. It's hard work and I'm the only person in the team who can play that role, but it wasn't one of my best games for St Johnstone against Rangers.

"I've played well in other matches and I try to keep my fitness as high as possible so that when it comes to these games I can produce as much as I can."
