Samsung celebrating defying barriers at Rio Olympics

South Sudan is about to compete in the Olympic Games for the first time and with it comes a plethora of inspiring stories.

One of which is 400 metre runner, Margret Rumat Rumat Hassan.

Hassan's story is explained in Samsung's film, 'The Chant', which continues the company's support of defying barriers and conveying the Olympic spirit of harmony and generating cultural and technological progress.

The young athlete was raised amidst Sudan's civil war and her family was displaced, before she was encouraged by a friend to participate in a competitive race.

She then discovered her talent for running. In 2014, she competed in the Youth Olympic Games as an independent Olympic athlete.

However, in 2015, South Sudan was admitted by the IOC, allowing Hussan to represent her country.

The film is the latest in Samsung's promotion of the untold stories of courage and persistence of the Olympics, with the release of 'A fighting chance,' earlier this year, which explored the stories of four athletes and Olympic hopefuls who broke barriers in an attempt to reach Rio 2016 and create history for their nation.

Samsung is the Worldwide Olympic Partner in the Wireless Communications Equipment category and has been a sponsor of the Olympics since the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games.

Samsung's commitment to the Games will continue until at least Tokyo 2020.
