Antonio Cassano credits his form for Sampdoria last season to girlfriend Carolina.

"I am so happy. If I had not remained in Genoa, I don't think this love affair could have lasted, and I say that out of respect for Carolina," he told Chi magazine.

"I was afraid that I would have to return to Madrid, so I waited and took it slowly. Now that I am certain of staying, I can talk about the woman of my life."

He added: "Carolina has changed my life.

"I love this angel of a girl. It is for her that I put the Cassanate aside, as I do not want to disappoint her."

Carolina Marcialis is also a sportswoman, as the 17-year-old plays water polo with the Diavolina Nervi team.
