Sampdoria through to next phase of UEFA Cup

Sampdoria have beaten Spanish club Sevilla 1-0 to progress to the round of 32 in the UEFA Cup.

Jonathan Botinelli scored in the 74th minute to give the Blucerchiati a famous victory at the Stadio Ferraris.

It was a high-pressure affair due to the other group match between Stuttgart and Standard Liege bearing significantly on what happened between Samp and Sevilla.

The Italians needed Liege to get the points over Stuttgart but when the Germans went ahead, pressure mounted on Walter Mazzarri's side and they duly delivered.
