Sampdoria sink to Standard Liege in Uefa Cup

Sampdoria were punished for fielding a second-string side in the Uefa Cup by losing 3-0 to Belgium's Standard Liege.

Igor De Camargo opened the scoring with a header in the 23rd minute then became provider a little over ten minutes later when he crossed to the head of Oguchi Onyewu who duly netted.

This put the Blucerchiati on the back foot and they could never recover and only went on to concede another goal prior to half-time; a counter attack that bought about a Milan Jovanovic goal.

Sampdoria now find themselves fourth on the Group C table with just four points from three matches and need a victory over second-placed Sevilla in the final group match to progress.
