Sampdoria have approached Manchester United for their Italian teenage whiz Federico Macheda.

Samp sports chief Beppe Marotta wants to bring the ex-Lazio junior back to Italy on a season-long loan and has already registered their interest with United.

Macheda is unlikely to see regular action with United next term, though manager Sir Alex Ferguson may prefer he go out on-loan to another English club.
