Sampdoria coach Gigi del Neri says they deserve their high-flying status after victory over Bologna.

Samp president Riccardo Garrone is already comparing the current team with the Scudetto winning 1991 squad.

"We must enjoy this victory and then see what happens in future," said Del Neri. "It is a long and intense season ahead of us, we must remain humble and efficient.

"Considering what Sampdoria have done so far this term, we deserve this result and earned the right to be at the top of the table.

"The important thing is to maintain this positive attitude even when we run into less positive moments."

Although he did not score, Antonio Cassano had a hand in all the goals and created several more opportunities.

"Cassano was decisive in this match. The team does play as a unit, but they also have remarkable quality from the individuals."
