Sampdoria chief Beppe Marotta has handed coach Walter Mazzarri a vote of confidence.

He said: "Walter Novellino was with us for five years and Mazzarri is only in his second season. The merits of Mazzarri go beyond the table standings and so there is no reason why we would possibly consider a replacement - even if there is negative results."
