Newcastle United winger Sammy Ameobi hopes to be back from injury before the end of the season.

Ameobi hopes to be back to help United close in on their Europa League place, which would be a real achievement in his first full season as a first-team player.

When asked on his chances of a return this season, Ameobi told the Evening Chronicle: "Yes, I should hope so.

"Coming back in the last nine games would be a great way to round of my first full season, and I'd love to get back out there.

"You just want to be back on the pitch and playing in front of these great fans.

"Hopefully I'll be able to do that this season."
