Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer understands Xherdan Shaqiri's decision to leave for Inter Milan. The Swiss international has joined the Nerazzurri on an initial loan deal, with the transfer to be made permanent in the summer until 2019.

"Being a very good player, he rightly wanted to play more as a starter," Sammer said in Qatar.

"We know how good he is, and it was a very difficult decision to make.

"For this reason, we understand and respect his decision to move."
